The federal budget will shine a spotlight on arts funding with $30.9 million to support Australian artists and foster the live music scene.

The Australian Music Industry Package includes $22.4 million over four years to provide small business grants of $10,000 for artist costs, and to invest in equipment or infrastructure to establish or upgrade live music venues.

A further $2 million will go towards boosting touring opportunities for artists, while Sound Australia will get $1.6 million to expand the export of Australian music into Asia.

There is an additional focus on encouraging new talent with $2.1 million for a women in music mentor program and $2.7 million to establish a national development program for indigenous musicians and bands for touring, recording and planning effective touring circuits.

Arts Minister Mitch Fifield said the investment was "about removing roadblocks for Australian musicians and boosting their profile in a competitive global market".

"The Morrison government understands the enormous potential for growth in this dynamic sector and is delivering real world measures to strengthen the diversity and reach of our music industry," he said.

Labor previously announced a $28 million music policy if they were elected.
