Senate Committee Puts Ticketmaster On Notice Ahead Of Beyoncà Tour

The Judiciary Committee sent Ticketmaster an ominous note ahead of the sale of the highly anticipated Beyoncé world tour.
Only a week after the Committee, they made their position clear on Thursday on how they expect the monopoly to handle the upcoming Beyoncé sale.
'We're watching, @Ticketmaster,' they ominously wrote in a tweet attached to a video reporting on how her fanbase, the Beyhive, is already anticipating another meltdown.
Like Swifties, the Beyhive had to register for a Verified Fan presale code, which not all fans will receive.

Those who do receive one, will then wait in a virtual line on their selected date to battle it out with other fans for the highly coveted seats.
Ticketmaster has already announced that demand for Group A - which includes nine cities - has reached 'more than 800 percent' of reserved tickets set aside for the sale and presale code registration doesn't even close until noon EST on Friday.

Group B has until February 9, while Group C has until February 16 to register to potentially receive a presale access code.
Unlike the Taylor Swift sale - where tickets to all tours dates were released to presale code holders at once - Ticketmaster has designed an updated release schedule to hopefully ensure Beyoncé fans don't run into the same issue, where the virtual lines were briefly stalled and fans were getting kicked out of the queue.
Instead, the BeyHive's three groups will fight it out for tickets on different dates.
Beyoncé's husband Jay-Z signed a $200million deal with Live Nation in 2017 that lasts 10 years that guarantees at least three albums, touring, and music publishing.
'Over 9 years, we have traveled the world producing historic music experiences,' the rapper said at the time. This renewed partnership is a testament to our longstanding relationship and the talented individuals at Live Nation. For the next 10 years, we will continue redefining the live event landscape.'
As for the Taylor Swift fiasco,  and the 'historical unprecedented demand' for tickets.
A statement at the time read: 'The Eras [Tour] sale made one thing clear: Taylor Swift is an unstoppable force and continues to set records.

We strive to make ticket buying as easy as possible for fans, but that hasn't been the case for many people trying to buy tickets for the Eras Tour. We want to share some information to help explain what happened.'
Ticketmaster explained that fans needed to register with their system Verified Fan before the sale began, which is designed to 'help manage high demand shows - identifying real humans and weeding out bots.'
The statement continued: 'Based on fan interest at registration we knew this would be big.

Over 3.5million people pre-registered for Taylor's Verified Fan, which is the largest registration in history.
Ticketmaster blamed bots and the 'unprecedented' demand for Taylor Swift tickets for the meltdown last year and have set up more provisions - including staggering the dates and dividing Beyoncé fans into groups - to help avoid another fiasco
'The huge demand for Taylor's tour informed the artist team's decision to add additional dates - doubling the tour and number of tickets available so more fans could make it to shows.
'Historically, around 40 percent of invited fans actually show up and buy tickets, and most purchase an average of three tickets.

So working with the artist team, around 1.5million people were invited to participate in the on sale for all 52 show dates, including the 47 sold by Ticketmaster.
'The remaining 2million Verified Fans were put on the waiting list.'
Adding the demand for Taylor 'broke records and parts of our website,' the statement continued: 'Historically, working with Verified Fan invite codes has worked as we've been able to manage the volume coming into the site to shop for tickets.

'However, this time the staggering number of bot attacks as well as fans who didn't have invite codes drove unprecedented traffic on our site, resulting in 3.5billion total system requests - four [times] our previous peak.'
Shortly after the Taylor Swift meltdown, Bad Bunny faced a disaster, with  after being told their tickets purchased through Ticketmaster were invalid.
Since the monopoly was grilled by the Senate Committee, the company issued a one line apology to Swift.
'We apologize to the fans.

We apologize to Ms. Swift. We need to to better, and we will do better,' Joe Berchtold, the President and Chief Financial Officer of LiveNation, said.
