Young Woman 20 Who Developed A Binge Eating Disorder Loses 62kg

A young Australian woman has been given a new lease on life after she made the decision to undergo bariatric surgery at just 17 years old.  

Ellie Baxter, from Brisbane, was plagued with health issues growing up and has endured eight hip surgeries since the age of 10.

The now 20-year-old also developed a 'bizarre' neurological condition that affected her legs and left her needing to learn how to walk again.

Recovering from surgeries and constant stays in hospital made exercise 'impossible', and, coupled with a binge-eating disorder, saw Ellie's weight hit 142kg when she was 17.

The weight started to fall off - but it wasn't without its challenges.

Ellie's relationship with food started to 'go downhill' when she was 10 after a doctor put her on a diet to treat her 'fatty liver' which is caused by obesity. 

She found the experience 'isolating' as none of her school friends had to worry about what they were eating.

'Nobody else that I was surrounded with was experiencing that. At that age most people aren't concerned about what they're eating but I was definitely made hyper aware,' Ellie told FEMAIL.

Her complex view of food was further heightened when she had her first hip surgery to correct the constantly dislocating joint. She couldn't bear weight for six weeks and had to stay at home.

'I used to shove stuff down the side of the lounge and when mum would clean she'd find it and I was like "oh it must be from dad",' Ellie said. 

'My parents probably were a bit suspicious in hindsight but there wasn't much they could really do.'

'I had more access to the internet and social media and at time I was at a girl's school so I was very much comparing myself to other people,' she said. 

'It was also when I really started to get really sick with my illness and was at school even less so I had a lot of time to think and compare.'

As Ellie's weight grew, her health and confidence plummeted. 

She tried numerous fad diets from keto to intermittent fasting and Weight Watchers but nothing helped. 

'My mum's been a yo-yo dieter her whole life so I was constantly exposed to something of that sort of nature.
