Chantelle Houghton has opened up about her views on marriage as she confessed that she believes that nothing lasts forever.

The Celebrity Big Brother winner discussed her relationship with her ex-husband Preston as she confessed she thought they would be together for the 'rest of her life'.

Yet sadly it wasn't to be, and Chantelle admitted that now she doesn't see a need for marriage anymore and only wants an engagement ring to prove the commitment.

Speaking about the relationship on Good Morning Britain on Friday she said: 'I got married and I genuinely felt like I was gonna be with Preston for the rest of my life but 18 months later we were divorced.'

The TV personality, 40, met the Ordinary Boys singer, 41, on the reality show in 2006, with the two becoming engaged in April of that year and tying the knot just four months later.

But the couple called time on their marriage just 10 months later, and eventually divorced in November 2007.

She added: 'Neither of us were dead, yet we vowed until death do us part.'

Chantelle appeared on the news show alongside TV presenter Hayley Palmer and hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shepherd as they debated changing views to marriage.

According to statistics 36% of people believe marriage isn't forever with Chantelle arguing that while she loves the idea of marriage she thinks it's too big of a commitment.

'I just think it's a huge burden on your relationship, you're like "Oh we are married now this has to work" and I just think you can make a commitment to someone by buying an engagement ring.'

She explained: 'I am not bitter or twisted about marriage at all, I think it is a beautiful thing, but I just feel like in today's society and the way the world has changed and the way people have change and people grow, to actually say "I am going to be with you for the rest of my life" is a huge thing to say.

'Don't get me wrong I love a wedding a think its a beautiful commitment but it doesn't always last forever.'

While Chantelle met her former husband on a reality TV show in a very intense setting where emotions are heightened, she agreed that while this probably did lead her to rush her relationship she also knows 'normal' couples for whom marriage doesn't work out.

'I do know couples who have been together for many many years and then do get married and end up divorcing months later.'

Reflecting on her relationship with Preston earlier this month she told The Sun: 'Being in the house and meeting Preston was a whirlwind. It was such a happy time.

'I finally got over the fact I was the only non-celebrity, I'd passed the task, and then I was just slowly falling in love with somebody.

'I've still got so much love for him. We were just so young, and it was so full-on. It was like a holiday romance, but it was so much more intensified.'

She also appeared on This Morning where she discussed the short-lived relationship with host Josie Gibson.

'I think it was around 18 months but we're still really good friends, we're still in contact.

'I've just recently moved house, I've still got my wedding dress! We do still keep in contact I've still got so much love for him.'

Since her relationship with Preston, Chantelle was fleetingly engaged to her partner Alex Reid who is the father of her 11-year-old daughter Dolly.

The pair put a ring on it just six months into their relationship back in October 2011 but put wedding plans on hold after the birth of their daughter.

However less than three months after the birth of their daughter Chantelle called quits on the relationship after her husband, who was a former husband of Katie Price, was arrested for trying to force entry into Katie's house in Essex.

Chantelle was also engaged to her most recent fiancé Michael Strutt in April 2020 after a nine year friendship developed into a three and a half month whirlwind romance.

Yet the lockdown romance didn't last and the two split in 2021 after they admitted they took things to quickly.

Chantelle said at the time: 'With lockdown, we moved in together really quickly. That put a lot of pressure on things.'
